Getting started

Hi, glad to see you're interested in Aalto-Volley! This brief page explains the process of joining the club.

In a nutshell, get to know which activities we have (Recreational / Competitive), join our Telegram group and the relevant event groups in Suomisport. You may find all invitation links below.

Once you've visited the activities you're interested in, simply come back to this page and apply to become an official member. Find the links below.
Do note that if you only attend the Sunday casual shifts, you're no longer required to become an official member of the association - you only need to join the attendance group and pay the related participation fee.

Suomisport app

It's recommended that you download the Suomisport mobile app to sign up to events (see the image).

However, if you don't have a Finnish phone number, you may not be able to sign in to the mobile app. In this case, use the calendar in the browser version of Suomisport.

Membership classes

Aalto-Volley is a student association under the Aalto University Student Union (AYY), and thus members of the union are regarded as Full members. In addition, student members (Full members & External students) may be granted beneficial payment classes in certain internal club fees.

Members of Aalto University Student Union (Full members)
- All students who are current members of the Aalto University Student Union
External students
- Basic degree students (not PhD) who study in an institution other than Aalto University
- Master's students (not PhD) in Aalto University who are not current members of the Aalto University Student Union
Adults
- Graduated / non-students
- All PhD students who are not current members of the Aalto University Student Union
Supporting members
- Fully optional, people who want to give more financial support to the club
Honorary members
- Exempt from the membership fee, nominated by the board in the association's annual meeting as a permanent token of appreciation for perseverance, and substantial, long-lasting, and visible positive impact on the club

Membership fees

Membership applications are reviewed by the board. Once a member is accepted in the club, their membership fee will appear automatically on their Suomisport account.
Note that it's common for our officials to want to meet the players before having them be officially accepted into the club. If you want to speed things along, feel free to contact the appropriate officials.

The membership fee is tied to the board's term of office and is paid annually, commonly including the season from September until next August.
The fee shouldn't be confused with participation / seasonal fees, which are separate payments that seek to cover certain activity costs and are only assigned to players who participate in said activities. E.g. tournament participations or autumn / spring season's indoor shift fees are all potentially separate payments from the membership fee.
