The big picture

Let's have a quick recap of what this association is all about. Here's the gist of it:

1. We love volleyball (duh): we wanna play a lot of it, we wanna do it well, and we wanna do it in good company.

2. We are technical university students: we maintain traditions and organize new projects together, all in the name of fostering a strong community and a better future for ourselves and the generations to come.

And this season is all about upgrading our structure in a way that actually reflects that.

The Recreational section

While so far smaller in size, the Recreational section plays a significant role in the club - making volleyball accessible for everyone. The section's target this season is to solidify a working system that runs the following activities:

Casual volleyball games

The casual games return in the same format and weekly schedule as last season. Changes, however, are made to how players join the casual games group and how payments are handled. The process goes as follows:

1. A player joins the group via a public link (-> Join).

2. The player then receives an automatic participation fee for the entire half season (autumn / spring) -> due date set to late September / early August or at least 14 days from group entry time.

3. The player may visit the games before choosing whether to pay the fee -> failure to pay is simply considered a choice not to continue participating during the remaining half season.

4. Periodically, the payment statuses of all players are checked, and the unpaid ones are removed from the group.

Note: at no point is the player required to apply to be an official member of the Association, that remains optional. The casual games are purely transactional in this regard.

Teekkariseries

The annual Technical University division in Otahalli starts again in October-November, and the section is looking to host another team there! The specifics on this will be decided closer to its starting time.

The Competitive section

Then we have the troupers - the ones that have kept the rebranded Aalto-Volley going since 2018.

The Taatelijaosto Competitive section continues mostly as-is: running our division teams, training schedules, streaming, media content (did you know we have Canva Pro?), tournaments, fundraising, and what have you. The differences being mostly about having a better defined workload shared amongst a larger group of people.

Teams

Our teams used to have a single team leader taking care of everything, which induced a lot of fatigue. Now, the core of each team is defined by three (or more) of its most active members. These administrators set the tone - the thinking work, or the big picture stuff - for the team.

In addition, each team distributes the following areas of responsibility listed below to its players. The team may also request additional roles to be added, if they consider it justified.
